The Best Coffee in Buenos Aires - Cafe Magnifico
Headed off to the land of mate, green tea, and limonatas, I was worried my coffee addiction would end up in withdrawal. Thankfully, you can't believe what you read on the internet; Buenos Aires may be well known for tea but there is plenty to offer bean and leaf lovers alike.
Full City Coffee House
Founded by a husband and wife duo who were disappointed by the coffee offerings in Buenos Aires, this cafe serves great coffee and satisfying breakfast. I only visited twice, but I liked the lighter blend and how it worked with milk. My latte wasn't as foamy as I'd prefer, but it was still a better cup of coffee than most Americans waiting starbucks lines get each day.
Lab Cafe
Because of bold flavor and proximity to our hotel, Lab Cafe was our daily spot. The first floor serves as the cafe, with ample seating, a coffee bar where you can watch the magic being made, and a lounge space in the back while the second floor is reserved for cupping classes, tastings, and large groups. The decor is industrial: glass, cement, and wood fill the space. The espresso is bold but blends well with milk and just watching the baristas, it is clear they are well versed in their craft.
Felix Felicis & Co
I'm the first to admit I visited this quaint establishment purely because of the Harry Potter namesake, but this was the perfect location to park myself with my books, maps, laptop, and plan out the rest of my day. The Harry Potter theme was subtle, little more than bathroom signage and menu in the iconic lightning bolt font. Otherwise, the bright windows, white walls, and airy (dare I say minimalist) decor was simple and relaxing. In Argentina I kept stuffing my face with mezzalunas, small croissants with drizzled honey caramelized on top - and Felix Felicis was the best for this.
Coffee Town
With several locations across the city, Coffee Town was the most easily accessible. We visited them in the open air mercado de San Telmo. This was a perfect morning experience; grab a croissant and perfectly crafted espresso drink and roam the market where tourists and locals meet to buy fresh produce, antiques, and household items.
